Mouser Electronics, Inc. announced it is the first to stock the KEMET Power Solutions (KPS Series) MLCC Capacitors.
KEMET's KPS series (KEMET Power Solutions) utilizes proprietary lead-frame technology to vertically stack one or two multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) into a single compact surface mount package. The attached lead-frame mechanically isolates the capacitor/s from the printed circuit board, therefore offering advanced mechanical and thermal stress performance. Isolation also addresses concerns for audible, microphonic noise that may occur when a bias voltage is applied. A two chip stack offers up to double the capacitance in the same or smaller design footprint when compared to traditional surface mount MLCC devices. Providing up to 10mm of board flex capability, KPS series capacitors are environmentally friendly and in compliance with RoHS legislation.

The new SPECTRO-3-FIO series now also allows the detection of color marks with a scanning frequency of 40 kHz. With a high-power LED white light is fed into an optical fiber bundle, and via cross-section converter and attachment optics unit is projected onto the color mark to be detected as a light spot measuring 4mm × 0.7mm or 2mm × 0.2mm, or having a diameter of 0.5mm. A part of the light impinging on the color mark is scattered back into the attachment optics unit and through the optical fiber bundle is directed onto the true-color detector that recognizes the color of the object similar to human visual perception. With different attachment optics units, object distances of > 0 mm up to approx. 200 mm can be realised. Due to the use of an optical fibre the color inspection system also can be used in Ex areas without any problems. Compressed air attachment units can be provided as protection against excessive dirtying. With a Windows® user interface the color sensor can be correspondingly parameterized via RS232, USB and ETHERNET. The software also provides various evaluation methods.
www.oboyle.ro

The confocal sensors of the SPECTRO-3-COF series project white-light spots with a diameter of approx. 1mm to 5mm or with dimensions of 4mm × 0.7mm onto the object to be detected. The transmitter optics unit is located at the centre of the receiver optics unit, which results in a highly compact design. This allows a reliable, high-precision, and high-speed detection of small objects such as e.g. color markings or wires at a great distance.
The color sensor features 5 digital outputs; teaching of up to 31 colors can be performed with the included SPECTRO3-Scope Windows® software, with a Teach-button at the sensor housing or with a Teach-input for external teaching. With a scanning frequency of 40kHz and a switching frequency of 30kHz the color mark detector definitely ranks among the faster systems. Reliable color differentiation on the one hand is guaranteed by the so-called true-color detector (human color perception), and on the other hand by a special evaluation algorithm. The color that is currently placed under the sensor is compared with the color references (up to 31) that are stored in the color memory. Similar to human evaluation the color sensor software first performs a preselection of references (possible candidates) whose tolerance range includes the current color. From the possible reference colors it then selects the one color that is closest to the current color (direct comparison). Only this process allows the detection even of smallest color differences (to DE=0.3).
www.oboyle.ro

Conventional luminescence sensors that are available on the market are able to detect whether there is a fluorescent object, but they utterly fail when they should perform color differentiation of such objects! With the luminescence color sensors of the SPECTRO-3-UV series there now are sensors that apart from brightness differentiation (grey scale evaluation) also can perform color differentiation. Up to 31 different fluorescent objects can be stored in the sensor's color memory. The color information is provided via 5 digital outputs, a serial interface also is available. Teaching of the fluorescent objects can be performed either under Windows® with the included SPECTRO3-Scope software, with the TEACH button that is integrated at the sensor, or through digital input INØ. With its compact (M34 housing) and sturdy design the sensor is excellently suited for rough industrial use. The 40 kHz scanning frequency and the 30 kHz switching frequency also guarantee a reliable detection and recognition of fast-moving fluorescent markings.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. is adding to its Optoelectronics portfolio with a family of mid-range infrared (IR) sensors featuring digital and analog outputs in three package types. With a fast response time of 300ms and low supply current of 0.85mA, the industry-best detectors have a range of up to 30 meters when used as part of an interrupter design and a range of up to three meters when used as part of a reflective sensor. Some object detecting sensors adjust their detection threshold depending on the amount of ambient light and optical noise present in the environment. To avoid false detections in the presence of noise, the gain of the amplifier may adjust itself to such a low level that sensor responsiveness is affected. In low ambient light conditions, the sensor may increase its gain and make the receiver too sensitive, such that it will detect and respond to reflected or stray light.
The TSOP4038, TSOP58038, and TSOP5038 IR sensors with digital output eliminate these problems by featuring a fixed gain. With a fixed gain the detection threshold and resulting detection distance is fixed. Once the design of the optical parameters such as the intensity of the emitter, the aperture in front of the receiver, and the alignment of emitter and detector are determined, the sensor will have stable, repeatable performance under all lighting conditions.

ESCHA is presenting the new Automation Line
The connector- and housing specialist ESCHA is presenting the new Automation. The M8x1 and M12x1 round connectors will replace numerous cable types through a new cable quality and thus contribute to standardisation and simplification.
With the new ESCHA Automation Line, the customer is exactly hitting the target one cable quality for all automation requirements.During the last few years, several types of cables have been established in the market due to different requirements of machine builders. As a result, special products for respective applications have emerged, which have led to high logistics and costs for customers. The German company ESCHA is meeting the specific requirements of the automation industry with the new S370 cable for all products of the Automation Line.
The Automation Line will considerably reduce work and time for customers. The standardised products are:
• Drag-chain adapted
• Halogen-, silicone-, and PVC free
• UL listed
• Weld-field immune
• Chemical and oil resistant
• Microbes and hydrolysis resistant
• Fire resistant
At first sight, it is quite clear that the Automation Line is a special product line. In contrast to other ESCHA connectors, the new products are exclusively available in matt black and not in the typical blue. The raster ring is in ESCHA blue as a special feature. The advantage here is that connectors and cables can be delivered in a neutral colour and can adapt more easily to the individual machine concept of the customer.
The production costs of the Automation Line can be kept comparably low through the use of standard components and the optimisation of the material and production processes. This is being directly passed on to the customer with lower prices than qualitatively comparable products with other cables.
The M8x1 and the M12x1 versions of the new Automation Line will be offered as couplings and plugs in straight and angled styles and as 3- and 4-pole variants. The M12x1 connector is also possible with a 5-pole version. The entire product line meets IP67 requirements and is available as of now.

Microchip announces the industry's first Ion and photo smoke-detector ICs to offer alarm memory. The low-power power RE46C162 /3 Ion and RE46C165 /6/7/8 (RE46C16X) photo smoke-detector ICs make it easy to quickly determine which detector in an interconnected loop triggered an alarm. The ICs' low energy use enables smoke detectors with a battery life of 10 years, and an interconnect filter enables a connection to other devices, such as CO detectors. When an alarm is falsely triggered, also known as “nuisance tripping,” it is difficult to determine which smoke detector set off the alarm.
The alarm-memory feature available on the RE46C16X ICs enables the detector that caused the fault to be easily identified, which greatly reduces costs associated with installing and troubleshooting these types of smoke-detector systems.
